With its faux Neo Classical backdrop, Chao Yang Park is a popular location in Beijing for bridal portraits.

I began documenting bridal couples posing for their professional Wedding day photographs to be taken.
It became apparent that two ‘types’ of couples were appearing in front of my camera. “Real” couples as well as “staged” couples, fake brides and grooms posing for professional wedding catalogues.
It was difficult to tell which was which.

Brides and Grooms explores the line between truth and fiction exploiting the notion of this constructed veneer and illustrating photography’s tenuous relationship to the real.
